Important Notice from the Trustees
The Hunt Chapel Task Force recently received an evaluation of the structural conditions of the old sanctuary, now known as the Hunt Chapel, from an Engineering Firm. The engineers concluded that the outside of the building needs various repairs, but is structurally sound. However, they determined that the ground floor (kitchen and Teague Room) was in poor condition. They recommended that the occupancy of the kitchen, Teague Room and storage rooms should be limited to a maximum of ten people at any one time. For safety reasons the Trustees have decided that we must temporarily impose an occupancy limitation of 10 people in the areas mentioned. Additionally, no heavy furniture or equipment (such as a piano) should be moved into this area.
We regret the hardship that this will cause our membership but our first responsibility is to insure your safety. Trustees will be working closely with members and groups within the church for a feasible solution.
Trustees
The Trustees have selected a contractor to plow snow. We need volunteers to help with shoveling during heavy snow fall events. If you are willing to help, please come to the church when we are having snow storms.
Most of you know that our liability and property insurance rates almost tripled this year. The Upper NY Conference mandates that we purchase our insurance through their master insurance program. The Trustees have evaluated our insurance policy and find that the church is over-insured. We have obtained a price quote from a local insurance provider that is considerably cheaper than the amount we pay the Conference. We’ve tried to discuss this matter with Conference officials, but they do not return our calls or answer our letters. The issue was brought up during the Church Charge Conference on October 30th with the District Superintendent present. The congregation voted to omit the insurance payment from the 2012 budget, pending further inquiries. At the District Superintendent’s request, the Trustees sent him a packet of documents supporting our position. The Trustees will remain steadfast regarding this issue because it is your money we are obligated to protect.
